You can pruchase such a thing. Either a simple cont. checker (just buzzes
when you have resistance at near 0 Ohm) or a MultiMeter (recommended,
after all, you need something like that in very household anyway ;-).

What is checked is indeed "electrical" continuity, i.e. if the resistance
(right word here?) between two points is near 0 Ohm, or in other words,
if they are connected by a plain wire or somesuch.

Hmm. With 10 left thumbs, you wouldn't be able to handle a screwdriver, so no
way. If you can handle a screwdriver, it's a 5-minute job for someone who
knows what he does and maybe a 30-minute job for someone who quadruple-
checks every step (not a bad idea, BTW).

If you don't know how to handle an Ohm meter (continuity checker, whatever you
call it) and you don't want to learn, the trial-and-error method works fine,
too. Take the connector from the SCSI ID switch and put it on the three
pin-pairs that are used to set the ID on the drive (note: make sure you
really know which three that are). Power on the GS. If the ID is shown
as you did set it, power off the GS and close the drive case. If the ID is
vastly different (i.e.: 7), you put the connector on the other way and try
again (Note: Don't check this with ID 7, obviously, since you can't
distinguish that from a wrongly put connector).
