The sound is coming through because Pin 11 on the IIgs RGB connector
contains composite analog audio. (Left and Right combined on a single
pin) as opposed to the L+R that is available inside the computer.
Composite video like whats on the back of the computer is also
available on the same connector at pin 12.
I used to hook this up to any RGB monitor that I converted that
contained sound, such as the Atari and Commodore RGB monitors.
Additionally, if you had a composite monitor that had a non-standard
connector and had audio, you could make a cable that went from the
DA-15 and carried audio and video to that monitor. Like the KV-1311CR
even though that one also had standard connectors. It had that 34 pin
IDC connector and a digital VTR/SCART like connector that is for CGA/
EGA.
The 34 pin connector on that one has pretty much every signal thats on
the other connectors.
