    ][ would go for (B), SHK only.  As long as there's only a
 single, consistent format, though, it doesn't matter so much
 to me.

    |)efinitely stick to 15 characters or less, especially if they're
 all SHK.  (Ever accidentally open a SHK into a word processor
 because it came down as a text file, with no Binary II, and the name
 was too long so it lost the SHK suffix?  Very annoying.)  At least
 with a BSQ file you can look at it and be able to tell immeditately
 what it is.

   /-\lso, if the site is maintained properly, with a good subdirectory
 order, then you don't need to worry so much about the file names.
