Printing from gs to epson MX80 ?

Hi - I have an old epson mx80 parallel printer connected to a card in slot 1 
of my  gs. It works fine if i pr#1, print stuff then pr#0 (like the old II+ 
days)  but doesn't print (even garbage) from appleworks 3.0 or from the 
system(s).  I've tried MANY settings for the card and the printer but no 
joy. Has   anyone got this combination to go ? If yes , PLEASE send me the 
correct  settings.
