AppleWorks 1.0 query

Hi all,
I'm relatively new to this list, but I was surprised to see discussion of 
AppleWorks.  One of my first computers was a //c (1987 or so) and I had a
copy of AW.  I sold the unit recently (I was using it as a backup word 
processor) and found I had some AW files on 5.25";  is the conventional
wisdom that later versions of a program can open earlier ones valid here?
	Can I get AW 3.0 or 4.0, find a Mac 3.5" drive (do they make such a
beastie?) and get at those files?  I'd like to use them in my Mac graphics
work (pursuing a degree).
	Please respond to me (I don't want to clutter the list w/a relatively
one person issue.
	Here though is a question for the forum:  I heard Quark is available
for PCs; any opinions on how that will affect the graphics communications
industry.
