Do you know this as a fact or conjecture? When one software package states it
_requires_ a previous version in my mind that suggests a patch rather than a
completely new version. This is particularly the case with Appleworks which
has been repeatedly enhanced through patches. Your logic, that because QC now
publishes AW3.0 --> 4.0 will be a whole new Appleworks, is not supported by
the facts as I understand them. There is no mention in either of the articles
I've read that Appleworks 3.0 "will be included as part of the package", only
the comment that AW3.0 is required for AW4.0. Likewise there is no indication
of a cheaper price for those of us who already have 3.0 and would not need
that as part of a package. Since The Works (now called AW4.0) was in
development prior to QC becoming the publisher of Appleworks it is unlikely
that development included a reworking of the essential Appleworks code. It is
far more likely that The Works was (and remains) an enhancement and
consolidation of several prior patches such as those published by JEM. If
a genuine upgrade for Appleworks is coming then I suspect it will be the 5.0
version.
