I think bluetooth is the way to go. Ive been messing around with
Zigbee and using exisitng code talking to a Zigbee development board.
Might get to read my power bill if I can get it going. But after
reading about bluetooth's virtual wireless serial ports, I think I
might give that a go instead.

The module I used for Zigbee is a DIP40 style. Makes for a very easy
interface to the ASIC adaptor board. Ill see if I can find a Bluetooth
module in the same footprint.
