I promoted SSII very heavily in my last two club newsletters, with a
comprehensive write-up in the August one, I showed it off at our August
meeting (two nights ago), and it received only a passing interest from
most people there! One guy almost devoured it, however, with the comment
that it really seemed like something worth subscribing to. Another said
it didn't have much for him since he is an Apple IIe user. This is
despite the fact that there was a good spread of news for both IIgs and
IIe platforms throughout, at least as good as is possible given today's
climate.
 
The meeting was relatively poorly attended (twelve people, about half of
what we usually get) and 75% of them were IIgs users. Given that only
one person among them showed true interest, can we deduce from this tiny
sample that 12.5% of the Apple II population will subscribe to SSII? Or
is it more like 1.25%?
 
I don't know the answer. I think the main perception in most peoples'
minds is that their computers are now worth only a fraction of what they
originally paid for them, and any money they spend on them is going to
wasted even further. I spend a lot of my time trying to correct this
misconception, but it's very difficult to do.
