When I first installed my Zip I had a simmilar problem, I'm not sure it was
exactly the same thing, but it turned out that the zip chip was not
properly seated on the card.
as for your second problem, dose it hapen when you shift boot? I have had a
problem with Kangaroo that I haven't reported to Seven Hills yet that
caused my sys to hang at startup when the desktop is being built removing
Kangaroo solved the problem.
