Just a note to say that I was able to get ftp access, and I
succesfully downloaded 6.01 and installed it on my machine.  The my
machine crashed.... :-(  (see the ongoing RAMFast / SCSI question!)

Thanks to the guys who fixed ftp.apple.com - I'm not sure where it
fits (priority-wise) in the grand scheme of things, but we all
appreciate it being there!
