You might be identifying the problem when you state the cable must be ok,
because it works with the superserial card and the modem.... The pinouts
on a modem and a printer are NOT the same. That is why the SSC has the
block that can be rotated for either modem or printer use.

I'm betting that the cable you have is set for use with a modem and that
the super serial card is doing the conversion for use with the printer. I
think that the lines dealing with data send and data receive should be
reversed.... A null modem adapter should do the trick (I think) if you 
don't want to invest in a printer cable. But then again, its been a
while and the fine points may be lost.
