Just kidding.. Anyway, you're completely mistaken as to the purpose
of the "Check 5.25" drives on startup..." checkbox. This simply is a
preference so that the Finder doesn't whirr your 5.25" disks when the Finder
starts TO SEE IF THERE ARE DISKS IN THEM. If you have the option turned off,
you have to manually double-click on the drive icons so that it polls
the drives and then puts an associated disk on the desktop.
It has nothing to do with how many drives you have connected, and
Jim Murphy has already given a description as to why it always shows two.
