    |\|o, Talk is Cheap is still commercial.  Don Elton is just
 distributing it directly, now (like the way Paul Parkhurst is
 distributing ANSITerm).  TIC just had a major upgrade to v4.0, too.

 available as shareware or freeware for the Apple IIe, right now.
 The most you're going to get, aside from Kermit, is generally
 just a simple terminal program.
