If your error is something like "Unable to load port driver" I think I
can help.  A little.  I had a similar problem and after going through
all kinds of gyrations (re-installing drivers, deleting files, re-
configuring the control panel port settings, ad nauseum) I finally
discovered the problem was simply a matter of going to the Control
Panel CDEV and selecting the printer and port info.  It has been a 
while since I went thru this so I may not be remembering the exact
solution but it is simple and it is corrected by accessing the Cdev.
