Actually, ftp.apple.com is one of a small percentage of systems which
require some sort of reverse name recognition tables to be set up.
For a site which for whatever reason decides to register one machine only,
that means that others have to use that one machine as a gateway to one
of these types of systems (ftp.uu.net, ftp.apple.com and at least a couple
in Europe).
