LaserPrinter Problem

I apologise if break any group protocol, as I haven't read the this
groups FAQ, I can't seem to get hold of it and I need some info very
quickly.

The problem is a friend was sold a Select 310 LaserWriter from an
approved Apple Center (mentioning no names). He is a graphics
designer so speed and quality are all important and his I.T.
knowledge is limited. It turned out that this printer didn't live up
to the performance claimed by the sales man. It takes an average of
18 minutes to print a page of text out. It seems to be configured
properly (he has had the Apple Centers technician out).

He is now out to replace the Select 310 and has had a LaserWriter
NTR recommended to him by an alternative Apple Center but he wants
to be sure he is making the right choice before commiting himself
this time. Is this a good printer or would anyone recommend an
alternative (his budget is limited).

He paid 850 pounds for the Select 310 and has been quoted 600 pounds
for the LaserWriter NTR as part of a 'special deal'.

He needs to print output from PageMaker, Quark Xpr, Free Hand and
Illustrator, his machine is an LCII (and also an SESBHD).

Thanks in advance.
