GNO + HardPressed
I sat through an impressive demo of HardPressed last night at the
usergroup meeting and I have a few questions. As I understand it, HP
will uncompress a file when you read to it, or compress a file if you
write it out to disk. What happens if I try to do something like "cat
file1 file2 file3 file4 >> blah", where all five files are compressed?
Can someone try this? Will HardPressed correctly unsqueeze "blah",
append the other four files, then recompress it?
I also heard complaints about slow directory access which leads to
long rehash times in GNO. Since you can give HP a certain amount of RAM
as a cache, would it be possible to have it cache directory information
as well in a future release?
