Lobotomizing UniDisks...

Does anyone have reference material on removing the smarts of the UniDisk
3.5 drives?  I tried doing this with my one UniDisk, and it doesn't seem 
to have worked (I disconnected the PC board entirely and ran the incoming
cable directly into the drive mechanism -- is this correct?).  I seem to
remember there being a set of serial numbers for which this lobotomizing
procedure would work, but I don't know if mine is included (it's Y56060N).
