Hi, I am the soon to be proud owner of a new (old) Apple //e. The machine is coming without a floppy drive, but I have a UniDisk 5.25 drive already (without the Apple 5.25 drive controller card) that I've been using on my IIe card for my Mac LC 475. From the googling I've done, it would seem that the UniDisk is electrically the same as the Disk II, but I havent come across any posts talking about anyone who's ever made a Disk II controller to UniDisk 5.25 drive adaptor - is this even possible?Cheers,
I will probably be berated for this, but, for all intents and purposes, the Unidisk is more or less a Disk II with different cabling. You can open it up, remove the present cabling, and install a 20 pin IDC parallel ribbon cable. Just be sure to observe the pinouts and get both rows plugged in before you power it up. It works, I have done it. There is a place that carries a cable that does the conversion. I'm not sure of the link, no, wait, here it is: http://www.iec-usa.com/cgi-bin/iec/L1565 ;-))) Or, someone could get one of their extra cards and send it to you. So, yes, there are options. :-))) Bill Garber of Garberstreet Electronics http://www.garberstreet.com
