thanks for all your replies on that subject!
last night I figured out a rather easy way - no changes at all are required.
I'm running sys 7.1 - if this matters, but I used font/da mover and <option-
clicked> on opening which made all files appear in the fileselect window.
I clicked on the bare GS font file (just copied on HFS under GS/OS 6.0) and 
it worked...!
