FTP by mail can preprocess the files into BinSCII format before sending them.
I don't think that would be too hard to do. As for 7 bit systems, are those
really there? Is it really possible a transmission from point X to point Y
can become corrupted by a 7 bit machine between the two at point Z? I thought
that a 7 bit machine would politely refuse to be an intermediate connection
between 2 8 bit machines for an FTP session.

If it is true that the files can become corrupt, then I guess .bsq.Z isn't so
bad.
