Why does my GS do this?

Any ideas on what my GS is doing?  I have a ROMO1 GS with 2.25M
RAM and a Zip card (7mhz, 32k cache).  Once or twice a week my
computer will slow down to about .5mhz (a guess).  It runs so slow
that if a dialog box can be seen drawing.  To show the dialog box to
quit, using option-Q, take a full 3 secs.
Sometimes the computer has been on for hours, other times, a
relatively little time.  It doesn't seem to be software related.
Re-booting solves the problem.
Is something on my motherboard going, or what?
