I used to use a modem on one of these things, using a 1200bps
modem, a special cable I built (the //c has another one of those
idiotic non-standard serial ports -- 5 pin din.  All i remember
about it is GND is the middle one.).

That port alledges to be able to support 9600bps, but in my
experience, 2400bps is the max.
