It would almost certainly run too slow. I have yet to see a decent
implementation of X on a PC, so a stock GS would undoubtable be worse.
Someone would need to spend a lot of time tweeking the device dependent
code before it would be halfway decent. Then there's the problem of memory
management--X was written under the assumption that it would be run under
a virtual memory scheme, so there are NO checks for running out of memory.
In other words, it would crash at the drop of a hat without some major
modifications to the original source code! This is something we had to do
here at Labtam for our X terminals.
