I thought of doing the same thing here (in Canada), but it doesn't
solve my problem of writing shareware cheques in US funds. I can get an
account in US funds, but it will still cost me $6 to write a cheque in
US currency. The teller told me the cost is converting between the
different encoding schemes on the bottoms of Canadian and American
cheques. I don't see why they can't print up US-style cheques here for
this sort of thing. $6 per cheque (or $3.50 for a money order) is kind
of a disincentive to pay for shareware... :(
