InWords 1.1 on a //e
I posted an abbreviated version of this a couple of days ago and have
not received any replies. If you have had good results with InWords 1.1
on a //e I would like to hear from you. WestCode insists that there
are no known problems such as I'm experiencing. They have sent my friend
three disks in response to my complaints to them. I have a separate disk
from WestCode which makes a total of 4 different disks and they all
show the same error.
Tried the program on two different enhanced //e machines.
The first one has: 8Mhz Zip and a 3Meg Ramworks III RAM
The second has : 1Mhz 65c02 and 1Meg Ramworks II
The problems:
1. On a //e with 1 Meg or 3Megs of memory, InWords sees only 659K on
either machine. This is 64.35% for 1Meg and 21.45% for 3Meg.
This limits the scan to 8 inches.
On a IIgs with 6Meg (6144k) there is 6117K available (99.56%)
The scan limit is then 60 (or 80, I forget) inches. Quite a bit
better.
2. During recognition the program will beep and lock up.
a. All combinations of two Quickie scanner and interface cards
was tried. Same results i.e., lock up
b. Tried both memory cards in both machines. Same results.
c. On the Zip machine tried with the Zip on and off. Same results.
d. Tried ProDOS 1.9 and 2.0.2. Same results.
e. Tried 4 different disks of 1.1. All from WestCode, not
copies. All are on 3.5" disks. WestCode has said that there
is not a //e and a IIgs version of the program.
f. Tried the same material with the same scanners on a IIgs and
got perfect results.
