METAL QwikStart Archive
I'd like to announce the release of the METAL "QwikStart" archive that I put
on the FTP site today.
This archive has everything that you need to start working in METAL. It will
unpack to about 768K (Means it will fit on a 3.5) and is ready to run from the
start.
For those of you hesitating about checking out METAL because you just don't
want to sit down and read all the documentation, try this archive out. If you
have a GS, all you will have to do is unpack it and run 1 file. If you have a
IIE and a HD or 3.5 disk, you have to make one change to the configuration
file so that METAL uses the IIe's memory driver.
This archive includes all the latest "fixes" and updated Shell commands, plus
the documentation and extra configuration files from about 14 different
systems.
Plus, it comes with my MSH program, version 1.1. MSH is a fully functional
"Work Shell" for METAL. It was designed one night out of boredom and expanded
into something that is quite useful. It allows you to compile, edit and debug
METAL source code all from within the language. It looks like a Unix shell
(Even the login is unixish) so that anyone with a Unix background will feel
right at home. It fully access all of METAL's Shell commands and ads a few new
ones like SB/RB.
So, if you want to see what METAL is like, grab this archive, unpack it, read
the READ.ME file and run it. I think that you will find this a very elegant
and simple solution to the confusing setup problems that people encounter.
