A GS without a harddrive!!?? I don't even use my //c without a 20 meg
quark :-).
Seriously though, I think the number one thing that interfered with
Apple // sales in general and GS sales in particular was that Apple sold
them underpowered. I know first hand of several labs which bought //e and
IBMs at the same time. They didn't know computers so they bought the stuff
stock. This meant //es with 128 (in some cases 64k) and two floppy drives.
The IBMs had harddrives and 640k from the factory. Because of this the IBMs
were used more often. When I suggested upgrading the Apples with more memory
and hard drives they thought I was nuts. Why spend money on computers that
noone is using?
I don't think that Apple dealt with the shift to a population that just
wanted to use computers without really understanding them. At least not
in the case of the // series. I wouldn't trade my souped up //c for a Mac
but how many people would know to add an accellerator and more memory?
