You don't have to connect to crash or any of the other UNIX sites that
provide Internet gateways for ProLine systems. You need only to connect
to another networked ProLine to access everything you'd get from a
direct UNIX-based connection. There are about a dozen UNIX machines
across the country that provide a direct link, but the majority of
ProLine sites don't need to connect that close to the Internet.

What have you looked into so far? I know for a fact that you can get
one hour of AT&T long distance each month for $10. If all you did was
connect once each week for 15 minutes to exchange e-mail with any site
in the US, you could transfer over 3MB (at 800cps) in a month's time.
That's a ton of personal e-mail. More realistically, you could get a
few of the ProLine-based newsgroups (e.g. pro.line.admin) and still keep
under the 3MB ceiling. For $10 a month, having Internet e-mail access,
keeping abreast with all the goings on with ProLine, and, of course,
having direct electronic contact with MDG and hundreds of other
operators, is deal not to be missed.
