No, a cleaning disk won't hurt anything, but what I have found from
experience is old disks have the incredible ability to deposit some
really nice large chunks of crud on the head and you need to get it
off and know for sure what you are working with.

The cleaning disks really don't do much on anything other than a light
touch pass and are good for preventative and regular use, but after a
long term of unknowns, I have found they just never get anything off.
