Imagewriter to PC connect(solution)

This is a follow-up to an article that I posted a few weeks ago.
In that article, I asked for advice on how to hook my imagewriter up to my PC.
My system:
           Gateway 4DX2-66V (486 66mhz)
           Windows 3.1
           DOS 5.0
	   Telepath FAX/Modem (COM1)

This is what I did to make the imagewriter and PC cooperate;

I used the cable that came with the imagewriter, to this I attached a null-
modem(serial), attached to this was a serial gender changer, female to female
(the cable is male and the COM3 socket is male). That's all the hardware.

So that this setup would work in DOS, I put the following lines into my
Autoexec.bat file:
	MODE COM3:9600,n,8,1,p
MODE LPT1 = COM3 <---- "This command redirects printer output
from LPT1 to COM3" (from the DOS 5.0 manual)

In Windows, I specified the "Generic/Text Only" printer driver. Then I
specified that it was connected to COM3.

It works great, the only hitch is when you shell out to DOS from windows, and
use the PRINT <filename> command, Windows gets upset. Seems that Windows uses
COM3 to shell to DOS, so you get a conflict and a lot of garbage printed. Any
ideas on this one? I'm willing to live with this for now.

This is what I had to buy(I got this stuff from Radio Shack):
          (1) Null Modem Adapter, male DB25 to Female DB25, part# 26-1496
          (1) Serial Gender Changer, female DB25 to Female DB25 part# 26-1495
Couldn't find a male to male null adapter, so the gender changer was needed.
Both items were priced at $4.95.

If there are any questions about what I did, please feel free to e-mail me.

Big thanks goes to Kevin C. Routh for pointing me in the right direction,
and thanks to another person that replied(I'm Sorry, I'm Sorry, I'm Sorry,
I forgot who you are.)

Good luck to all.
