Anybody got info on fast sprite clipping?

Does anybody know or have sample source code for doing clipping of a sprite
as it say moves off the screen and moves behind an object?

My sprites are composed of compiled shapes right now and is it feasible to
do fast clipping with compiled shapes?

P.S. Anybody got source code or some programs of Chris McKinsey a former
animation god of the Apple II?
