Give us a break. What a pain and an exception it would be for Apple to have all
its new cards latch into pre-existing slot firmware. A better perspective might
result if Apple recommended slot 6, implying no more support for 5.25", which I
wouldn't mind at all.
 
If one of those reserved toolsets is the RAM disk routines, perhaps Apple
should write a GS/OS loaded driver, freeing RAM disks from slot dependency. I
wonder if this would be faster or slower.
 
If Apple wanted to "drop support" for RAM5, they could make ProDOS 8 and GS/OS
not use it.

Huh? What do you mean? Slot ROM's can have 16 bit code and can call IIGS 16-bit
code.
