	I recently encountered the same problem with transfering
files and asked help from a CS friend of mine, after chatting
for a while he revealed that though there are programs that do
perform 7 bit Z-modem transfers there is not much of a speed
change.  Z-modem just slows down is all.... so you aren't going 
to gain much speed using it.
