Permanent archive considerations
In a previous article, henigan@quando.quantum.de (Kevin Henigan) says:
>I think the idea is great, but I don't like the idea of $50/mo.
Nope, me neither, and as I've said I don't think I'd contribute if this
were to be the case.
>I would also like to see a mail-server at the site where the archive is,
>this would allow a lot more people access.
This is an excellent idea. Plains has an archive-server; perhaps that could
be used in modified form? It would obviously default to sending files in
BinSCII format rather than yucky uuencode or btoa. :)
This would also allow files to be kept in shk format while still allowing
those people who have difficulty retrieving binary files to use the site.
>I know that the ftp-mailer exists, but it does get rather busy at times.
And might cease to exist any time; frankly I've always been impressed with
DEC for providing the thing at all.
