That's your life, not necessary others.

It is a good idea, if you support it, then it might happened. Apple will not
make the GS if people all think that "the 16-bit Apple II is not gonna happen,
That's life".

Of course Apple will no longer make a new Apple II, but I surely hope to
see a new super Apple IIGS compatible coming out from somebody who loves his
computer.

: There's one big difference: the C64 is still being manufactured and sold, and
: is still a big seller in Europe. Hence there is a lot of software for it.

Agreed. But it is also the fact that C-64 has a niche market on game. Basically
there are just a few (or more, I am not sure) companies writing software for
C-64. I think the Apple II community is large enough to support a few
companies. It just depends on the users.

: Like I said, the Avatar is a pipe dream at best IMHO. We should put all our
: efforts into helping the GS, not some mythical machine that will never
: exist.

So why can't we dream on? That's your opinion.

Have you talked to Bill recently and discovered that Avatar project has been
dropped? Do you exactly know what happened to Avatar? If your answer is YES,
then I have nothing to say.

I think I would like to see a future on Apple IIGS, and Avatar, if successful,
can be one of the computer many Apple II users who would like to buy. I hope
Burger Bill good luck, I know I am going to buy it if it comes out.

: Blah. This is entirely too idealistic. Idealism doesn't work in the real
: world, and you'd better get used to it yesterday. The GS has been
: discontinued. Recent advances have given PC clones abilities the GS formerly
: only had (the Gravis UltraSound in particular is an Ensoniq, only better than
: the GS its 16 bit and has a MEG of DOCRAM!). I don't see the Apple II party
: going on much longer, but it's been a fun ride and probably will be for a
: while yet....

Don't you think life is much better than 2 years ago, when everybody is hearing
rumours that Apple II is going to be dropped, the end is near, etc. Now it
is the new beginning. We still have Seven Hills, Procyon, Bright Software,
ByteWorks, etc. We still have Joe Kohn, Jawaid, Tim Meekins, and of course...
me. :) I see more software for the GS now then say, 2 years ago.

Yes, many Apple II users will buy a PC, Amiga, etc. But this does not mean that
they don't use or love their Apple II anymore. Many years ago I think that if
I ever "upgraded" to a new computer, I have to trash my Apple II. Now I have
a SUN IPC, IBM PS/2 model 70, and I love my GS most. David Ong has an Amiga and
a PC, and he spent most of his time on GS.

It is a fun ride, yes. And a new journey has just begun. Let us support anybody
or any company that still support Apple II, and lets celebrate Apple II in
its 20th birthday a few years later.
