monitor problem solved!

Thnaks to the person who suggested examining my power supply
connection.  I had a small hardware experiment going last summer (a
sound card which sounded horrible), and I left the cable that supplied
it power connected to the GS power connection (it was a simple
solution to get the power I needed).  I removed this cable, and
reseated the GS power connection, and my monitor seems fine now.
