As an owner of one of these units, let me explain it to you.
First off, the Pegasus unit is a replacement for the Apple IIe/IIGS
power supply. There is sufficient room inside of the unit for either a
half-height or 1/3 height 3.5" hard drive. (Note that if you have the 1/2
height variety, you should not order the kit with the fan - there is not
enough clearance for the air flow, and the fan will just generate heat
instead of removing it.)
This requires no modifications to the GS case. You simply take
your external hard drive case apart, remove the hard drive, install the
hard drive in the Pegasus kit, remove the lid from your GS, remove the
stock GS power supply, and install the Pegasus kit. You can connect the
drive to either a RamFast or Apple High Speed SCSI card with a cable that
runs around the front of the GS (on the inside).
The kit has dip switches to control the SCSI ID, and to control a
time delay feature. This feature prohibits your GS from starting up for x
seconds (as determined by the dip switches). This can be adjusted (in 6
second intervals, approximately) for delays of .1 sec, 6.7 secs, 13.4 secs,
or 20.1 secs. These combinations should give your hard drive sufficient
amount of time to come up to speed before your computer boots up, thus
allowing you to start up your computer & hard drive with one switch and
still boot up off of your hard drive.
