Need MIDI help for GS!

Greetings GS musicians, I need your help!

Recently, I have aquired a Yamaha PSR-500 keyboard with MIDI IN/OUT and I figured that since i had a wonderful little sound powerhouse of a GS, I'd hook them together and see what I could do.

So I bought and Opcode serial to midi box and plugged everything in and loaded up SynthLAB.

YUCK! I never really played with SynthLAB until now and that is one of the most user unfriendly programs I've ever had to endure. With *NO* editing features, it is of little value to me. Soundsmith? what a JOKE!! it has no real MIDI in! It only makes the sound of the first Instrument in the list, you cannont record in real time (meaning, you play something at a moderate tempo and it plays back something completly different) Plus, SSmith does not record velocity or sustain. It was eaiser to enter music

in from the keyboard!

Well, nothing good in life is free and those were so...

I want to record multiple instruments and save them in a generic MIDI format. I need editing (cut, copy, paste) abilities. Standard musical notation is not required ( I can't read it quickly enough anyway). I would like to be able to play one instrument on a chanel, edit it, and then save it. Then, I record the second intrument, while playing the first back, and edit it. Then save the two instruments playing together in a generic MIDI format so I can play them out to ANY MIDI instrument.

Is this possible? What programs are availible?

Thanks! :-)
