You're forgetting that 8 bit programs can do forked files if they're on a
server. As the finder tells you when you attach a comment to a file, unless
the file is on a server it can't be accessed by a ProDOS 8 application. It
would be more accurate to say they can't be accessed by a ProDOS 8 application
that doesn't do something similar to my homemade program.
BTW would anyone be interested in such a program? I have my program implemented
as an ECP8 shell program now but I might turn it into a standalone program if
I have the time and there's any interest.
