So do I! Anything to stew the pot even more. This the net, _anything_ goes.

bingo. The last year or so that I was in charge (or not in charge as the case
may be), pub/apple2's disk space _skyrocketed_. There was a lot of crap that
I wanted to delete, but every time I posted fair warnings I got all sorts of
whiny posts from people that wanted to preserve the whole thing for posterity
(i.e. their user group or some PD service) or who had favorite files which
they would get massively offended about if I deleted them (even though they
were now expendable because they had long outrun their useful download life).
However, the sysadmins finally started to run out of space on the disk that
pub/apple2 is on, and I got a pert little email asking me how big the archive
was getting. I took the hint and spent most of one night logged in over long
distance deleting stuff and un-BSQ'ing things. The next time I visited Tech,
I spent a lot of time continuing the job. This brought the archive from a
peak of EIGHTY megs down to a less unreasonable fifty megs. Currently it is
down to 45.7 megs, which is still nowhere near the original goal of 20-30
megs that I had discussed with the sysadmins when I first got the archive
started. Even at that size, pub/apple2 will be larger than _every_ other pub
directory except X11 (which does justify its size, to the admins); however if
we can get under 30 megs and stay there then I think the sysadmins will move
us back off the "expendable without a second thought" list, which we are
probably still on.
Unfortunately, some people (i.e. Ian) just don't seem to take the hint that
THE PARTY IS OVER
and that CCO will never again be the happy-go-lucky Apple II land that it
once was.
I am only sorry that Dan is being blamed by some for all of this because I was
incapable of the objectivity necessary to get it over with before he arrived.

Gee, thanks :)

Similarly, pub on CCO is at 98%. For those who need to be convinced:
"df ~ftp/pub/apple2"
Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on
sandman:/san2/home/ftp
1120542 983646 24842 98% /tmp_mnt/home/ftp
