SCIIBIN Problem?

My mode of operation is to read the net from my newsreader machine and
subsequently send all files of interest to my home machine. For
binaries from comp.sys.binaries I save all into a file named: bins.

I changed a bins file so that it was invalid. I then
creatred a shell script:

sciibin bins
if [ $? != 0 ]
then
	echo "Bad stuff happened"
else
	echo "Everything was cool"
fi

Unfortunately, the return code from sciibin was "0" so the answer above
was: "Everything was cool." This was in conflict with the error messages:

$ sciibin bins
sciibin (bins, 29): warning: line not ended by NULL or NEWLINE
sciibin (bins, 272): error: CRC error in file data
$ echo $?
0

Question: Is there a change in the works for SCIIBIN such that it
returns a completion code of non-zero for problems? Or, should we code:

$ sciibin bins > ErrorFile
if [ -s "ErrorFile" ]
then
	echo "Bitch up a storm"
fi

Kind Regards,
