Archiving

Re: Dan Zimmerman - Cal Tech Archive Administrator

Dan - thanks for your response to my question of, "What is archiving?"
Endangering oversimplification, I get the sense from your answer that you,
essentially, are the paid SySop of a BBS type library of freeware and
shareware, that may or may not, actually provide bulletin board service.

And, that your (and your archive's) function is similar to that of Dan
DeMaggio at the Univ. of Michigan.

And, that the _basic_ difference between you and our local ProLine
SySop/BBS is one of size. (Not intended as a put down to our local SySop,
Loren Damewood, who carries the burden of running this BBS on his own, and
who gets no thanks nor financial support from his BBS users - just a
thought of appreciation once in a while.)

NOTE: Am posting this on the net rather than E-mail with the assumption
that there might just be a few other dummers around like me (who probably
are smarter from me 'cause they don't expose der dummness) ;-)

And, besides all that, thanks for your helpful time and thoughts.
