Apple -> Macintosh conversion info needed

Hi, all:

A friend of mine, a dentist, has a customer tracking system on an old
Apple computer [Macworks? Apple works?]. He wants to know how he can
convert all those old files and data into the new Mac format. [Of
course, he is willing to purchase a new Macintosh].

Is such a conversion possible? How about customized applications? Can
the object code be recompiled on the new Macs? Or what about data in
old no-longer-supported applications?
