Re: Can I copy my boot partition to another HD???
[lots of questions and answers about moving boot partition deleted]
I just wanted to say that I do this all the time. I run a couple of
businesses off of my GS, and after an unfortunate hard drive crash, I
now keep two copies of my boot partition, programs, and data files on
Syquest 44 meg cartridges. Now, when I have a problem with my drive, I
can:
1) Run off of one of the backups directly if I have to, by changing the
SCSI IDs around (or removing the troubled drive from the chain
or
2) Copy all the stuff from the backup to the original drive if I have
the time.
This process has served me well, as I have an entire backup drive if I
need it. (Nothing like having to mail out 60 invoices and have your
drive crash! Once was enough to make a fervent believer in bootable
backups of me.
Copying files back onto a freshly partitioned partition also has the
advantage of defragmenting the data as it is copied.
