[GS] buffer chips for Hi-Speed modem

I just ordered a Hi-speed modem cable, but I am now a little concerned.
Petar Puskarich was very helpful in this project, but he mentions that
some GSes have a problem with the buffer chips during Hi-Speed transfers,
especially those with Motorola or TI chips (I think these are the 26LS32
chips at UC15 and UC16 for the printer and modem ports).

My old (dead) motherboard has Motorola chips, and my newer GS has the
TI chips. What do I do?

I understand that ProTERM has some sort of fix, but what about other more
permanent fixes so other software will work, too?
