File/creator Types-GS/Mac

Is there a way of associating the File/Creator types of GS files with
related ones meant, but not necessarily used, for the Mac? The reason
I ask is that many file servers will recognize Mac file types but not
GS ones (even simple ascii text). I'd like to be able to run my GS off
a Unix Appletalk based server, but the file types get lost when I transfer 
files to the server.
