Applewriter is NOT PD - it is freely distributable in a binary format. Only
one version - 2.1 ProDOS - is in this state. There was a version of this on
CalTech's ftp site - but I don't know what name was used. The official home
for this is GEnie.
Note that there is a patch floating around necessary to use AW II on a
IIgs printer port.
Also note that there is a user community written doc on GEnie to tell folk
how to use it. In fact, there are LOTS of things on GEnie (and Compuserve
and AOL) that never make it to internet...
