NEED HELP W/ SEQ. FILES

I'm writing a program that modifies text files and I need to know how to
load in segments of a text file (the files are too big to fit into
memory). I've been trying to get the MLI to do it with the OPEN ($c8),
and READ ($ca) commands, but have been unsuccessful. I can get the file
open, but it won't read from it. Any help would be VERY much
appreciated. If anyone has some pre-written subroutines or algorithms
for such a task, please send them to me. Thank you.
