Further to Soenke's excellent reply, Modem Manager is brilliant!

The default GS/OS modem port driver is generated automatically by
GS/OS. It knows nothing about extended control calls. The only way
to change the baud rate, etc. would be to send commands through the
serial firmware (e.g. "Control-A nnn B" to set the baud rate). I
haven't tried this, and have no idea if it will work.
The only way to access the serial firmware's extended calls is through
the FWEntry toolbox routine.
